Workplace Pensions

When do I need to comply?

Automatic enrolment is being staged in over a period of six years, which started with the largest employers in 2012. Staging date is the date when the law is ‘switched on’ for your organisation. Staging dates are based on the size of an employer’s PAYE scheme on 1 April 2012 – the more people in the PAYE scheme at that time, the earlier the staging date.

The Pensions Regulator will send you a notice informing you of your staging date. This is normally issued 12 months before the due date. The dates above are for guidance only, as there are complexities even with this part of the process. You should find out your staging date by visiting: http://www.thepensionsregulator.gov.uk/employers/staging-date.aspx
